Dylan Mandel is a musician, producer and educator based in Philadelphia. He has made national television appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, MTV Campus Invasion Music Festival and MTV Dean's List, sharing the stage with Wyclef Jean, Kelly Clarkson, Portugal. The Man, Amy Schumer and others. In addition to his passion for percussion, Dylan is also a dual-licensed speech-language pathologist with certifications in Teacher of Students with Speech-Language Disabilities (TSSLD) and Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) LOUD. He is currently serving as a Clinical Assistant Professor and Clinical Supervisor for the Katz School of Science and Health at Yeshiva University in New York City. Dylan is also in the process of receiving his PhD in Social Welfare from the Wurzweiler School of Social Work.
Dylan received his Master of Science from CUNY Hunter College in Speech-Language Pathology and Bachelor of Arts from CUNY Brooklyn College with a double major in Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology and Linguistics. Dylan also studied Music Performance and Education at the University of Anchorage, Alaska, and Jazz Combo Studies at the Seattle Drum School. Across his academics, Dylan has garnered a variety of skills including music therapy rehabilitation, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and auditory-verbal therapy for newly activated cochlear implant users.
Dylan is an avid researcher. His most recent work, “The Added Value of Musical Training on Linguistic Syntax Processing” was presented with acclaim at the Cognitively Based Music Informatics Research seminar at the Tow Center for the Performing Arts (Brooklyn, NY, August, 2019) as well as the American Speech-Language Hearing Association convention (Orlando, FL, November, 2019). This research provided objective evidence of the implicit benefit of musical training on a mechanistic level and argued for an improvement in quality and quantity of this training across the lifespan.
Dylan’s philanthropic interests are also notable. He has volunteered as an engineering teacher for incoming freshman at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, contributes as a drum instructor/writer for Takelessons.com, and has been an invited performer/speaker at Power Chord Academy Music Camp for Kids.
Dylan has advertised for Gretsch, Yamaha and Sabian, of which he endorses.
